The VersaPost is easy to install.

Screws are installed through the opening in the C channel. The VersaPost is designed to have the screws installed at an angle across the grain of the 2 x 4 wood stringer. This type of attachment results in a very strong bond between post and rail. No brackets are required. Download instructions in PDF format. Installation instructions for the VersaPost.

The VersaPost steel fence post can be driven into the ground or it can be set in concrete. In most cases, setting the post in concrete will be desirable. Hole diameters for fence posts are recommended to be three times the diameter of the post. In this case a six inch hole is all that is needed. Dig the holes eight feet apart or less. The holes should be a minimum of two feet deep. To prevent frost-heave in cold climates it is recommended that the concrete go below the frostline. Place the bottom of the post (the end without holes) about two feet into the concrete. Install the posts with the open C-channel parallel to the fence line. Let the concrete set up thoroughly before building the fence.

Place a clamp on each of two metal VersaPosts. It is absolutely essential that the stringer has a flat surface to rest on.

Place one spring clamp on each post at the proper height.

Only two clamps are needed to install all of the stringers.

Place the stringer on the two clamps. The stringer will balance on the flat upper surfaces of the two clamps. Cut the stringer to the proper length and place it on the clamps.

The stringer will balance on the flat upper surfaces of the clamps.

Use a long shaft power bit to fasten the stringer to the post with screws inserted through the opening in the c-channel. Use any type of long shaft power bit to fasten the stringer to the post with screws inserted through the opening in the C-channel.

The screws are attached at an angle across the grain providing an extremely strong bond between stringer and post.

The pickets are attached to the stringers to complete the fence. Attach the pickets to the stringers.

The pickets can be attached to either side of the stringers.

Unlike a hat-channel post, there is no need to worry about installing the VersaPost "backwards" by mistake.
